TaxesOur concern with the tax issue among the candidates stems from the recently developed "Fair Tax". This issue goes hand-in-hand with the economic development and growth issue. We are against any internet tax and/or national sales tax. Candidates like Huckabee have consistently been pro-internet tax. The "Fair Tax" would hurt internet businesses by forcing them to begin collecting a 30% sales tax on all goods. This would take any incentive out of buying goods online (prices on Amazon.com, or other similar sites, would soar). The "Fair Tax" would hurt the lower and middle class taxpayers most. The "Fair Tax" would also be applied to internet services including but not limited to: broadband services, web development services, and hosting. By forcing providers of services to collect a sales tax we must all change our accounting practices and become tax collectors like any retail shop. Web development companies would be undercut by providers in other countries such as India, Ukraine, or Russia. The same goes for hosting companies - it would now be cheaper to get a hosting plan in Canada or U.K. The only candidate we feel is prepared to take on the issue and protect a free internet is Mitt Romney. He will fight to make the Bush tax cuts permanent and will not come to a hasty decision about the "Fair Tax" which many have signed on to promote. John McCain has voted against the Bush tax cuts twice. Edwards, Obama, and Clinton have all voted against the tax cuts. |
