Health Care

Health care is an issue for us at WebmasterVote.org because of the rising costs of insurance. This is costing businesses more and more each year. For many businesses, it is simply not affordable so some can't offer any at all. We are against forcing businesses to insure it's workers.

Some of the candidates, such as Hillary Clinton, want to mandate individual coverage and force some employers to provide health insurance (the plan failed while she was First Lady).  Others, like Joe Biden and Rudy Giuliani, would like to take more market based approaches at reducing costs (which is fine, but hasn't worked so far). Barack Obama has gone to the extreme and proposed a national health insurance plan which would be funded by taking away the Bush tax cuts.

The most progressive and practical plan is that of Mitt Romney. This plan, for each state to follow, would be similar to the one he structured while governor of MA.  It requires all to have insurance, but doesn't raise federal taxes.  The plan tied rates to income and includes subsidies for the poor. The plan has been quite successful so far and he'd like states to follow the model.  In our opinion, this is a great plan. This way, people in Minnesota wouldn't be subsidizing people's care in California or anywhere else. The state's individual problems would have limited effect on other states.
